Far north in the cold, dark mountains, lies the isolated empire of Nitriolium. The resident stone demi-giants are ruled by a cold tyrant, and trapped inside by an eternal snowstorm.

Nitriolium is.. an interesting conlang of mine as it's for a world that is not my own. The Nitriolium Empire is created by user racaral on Unvale for a world shared between them, Cent, and callingtheartangel.

This whole thing started when I mentioned a headcanon that Nitriolians, especially of the higher class, would use a sign language rather than a spoken one due to howling winds and masks being commonly worn, muffling one's speech. When that was canonized, I ended up making an actual grammar for it and a few signs before finding that I had a good base for the spoken language as well. It kinda spiraled from there and now this might be my favorite conlang that I've made so far!

Nitriolians consider the spoken and signed aspects of their language to be one and the same, but for ease of reference, I have it split into spoken and signed here.
